Sports Connections archive
Sports Connections borrows the grouping mechanic and draws every category from sport, which changes who finds it easy rather than how hard it is. A group can be trivial if you follow that league and impenetrable if you do not, and no amount of wordplay skill closes that gap. We nudge each group before naming it. Look here for the day a category assumed something you had no way of knowing.

How Sports Connections works
The grouping mechanic from Connections, published by The Athletic, with every category drawn from sport. Sixteen entries, four groups, four mistakes. The categories pull from players, franchises, jersey numbers, venues and the working vocabulary of individual sports, which means the entries are not always words at all: a bare number or a team name is fair game on this board.
What a dated page holds
Each date shows all four groups with the category as printed, the nudge we ran that morning, and the four entries under it. Because these categories lean on knowledge rather than wordplay, the nudges are written to name the sport and the shape of the connection without naming the connection itself, and a past date is where you can judge whether that line held.
What builds up here
This is the archive that pays off for somebody who does not follow every league. Past dates show which sports keep returning, which leagues the puzzle assumes you know, and how often a group turns on a detail only a fan of one team would carry around. A run of them is a fair map of where the puzzle expects knowledge you may not have.
