How long it takes, and what medium means

Seventy-two clues across a 15x15 grid. Somebody who solves regularly should expect fifteen to twenty-five minutes; if you are newer to crosswords, closer to forty, and there is no clock anywhere on the page either way.

Medium here means a midweek newspaper puzzle. Most clues are straight definitions and are solvable on their own. A handful are puns, and those are the ones ending in a question mark, which is the standard signal and worth knowing: it tells you to read the clue a second way rather than reach for a dictionary. Nothing assumes specialist knowledge. Two long entries run the full width of the grid and share a theme, and working out what links them tends to open the corners around them.

What the board will do for you

Nothing marks itself wrong unless you ask. Autocheck is off when you arrive, and Check works at three scales, so you can test a single square, confirm one answer you are unsure of, or sweep the whole grid. Reveal is separated from it and asks before filling anything, because revealing a puzzle by accident ends it.

Pencil mode holds a guess in lighter type while you decide whether you believe it. Typing moves you along the current answer and jumps to the next when it fills; the arrow keys move square by square and Tab moves clue by clue. Clicking a square you are already on turns the corner from across to down.

Leaving it and coming back

Progress is saved on this device as you type, so closing the tab, locking the phone or coming back tomorrow all leave the grid where you left it. Nothing is sent anywhere and there is no account to make. Reset clears both the grid and that saved copy, and it asks first.

The print button gives you the blank grid and the clue list, deliberately without whatever you have already typed, which is the version you want when you are making copies. The download is a two-page PDF with the answer key on the second page, so you can keep it or hand out the first page on its own.
